It’s a new year and like many people, I’m looking forward — envisioning how I want to live and be in 2012. As a colleague once told me, “Most people grow old, but not everyone grows up.” Last year I had a number of powerful personal growth experiences through retreats. This year I am looking to make some important changes that will create more meaning and satisfaction in my life. For example, I want to spend quality time with people I love — finding more time to talk, listen, and play together. I want to live each day more fully, doing work that is fulfilling and has a positive impact. I want to take more time for activities that are fun and engaging, like dancing, hiking, and clay work.
Research has shown that people with meaningful and satisfying lives are healthier and more productive. What exactly does that mean? It means that these people view difficult and challenging life experiences as opportunities to help them further develop. They see these challenges as a chance to practice qualities like compassion, unconditional love, inner strength, courage, patience and understanding. They also have more balance in their lives. What do you envision for yourself in 2012? What will you do to make that happen? Your future begins today.
